School News

We hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It was a great time to pause, reflect and reset as we get ready to cruise through these next few weeks and ultimately celebrate the birth our wonderful Savior.   That being said, please read below for all the upcoming events/news that will be taking place during this time and even beyond.

Alpharetta Christmas Tree Lighting – We are excited to once again be a part of the Alpharetta Tree Lighting THIS Saturday.  Our 1st-3rd grade students will have the opportunity to perform a few songs at 5:30pm. We will also have a festive tent set-up and will be passing out hot chocolate. Please make plans to stop by and say hello.

ABC Christmas, Art Show & Christmas Market – On Tuesday, December 12th our 1st through 3rd grade classes will be presenting “ABC Christmas” at 7pm. Prior to the performance there will be an artist market from 6-6:45pm where 5th-8th grade students will have the opportunity to make and sell items.  If your student is interested in participating, please have them see Mrs. Thurman.  We will also have the Artome’ art show at 6pm where our 1st – 3rd grades along with Middle School students will display their masterpieces.  There will be one “best in show” awarded for the participating lower school classes and also one for the Middle School.  There will be a first place ribbon for each grade.

Food Drive
Our Middle School R3 teams are partnering with our lower school classes once again for a food drive. The last day to contribute is Wednesday, December 6th.  Our 6th grade students will then be taking the food to Norcross Cooperative Ministry and serving there during their upcoming Serve Day.  Only non-perishable food items can be donated and here is a list of their critical need items:

CRITICAL NEED ITEMS:
1 lb bag of rice
canned chicken
spaghetti sauce
breakfast cereal
meal in a can (example, ravioli)
canned soup: chicken noodle, vegetable, and tomato

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

At this time of year we often hear the most wonderful family stories about Santa and the merry Elves. We ask that if your child does not believe in Santa, please encourage them to refrain from telling others.  We want to be exceptionally sensitive to all family traditions and make sure that we do not infringe on the choices of other parents regarding Santa. As a school we will be focusing on the birth of our Savior, and that is our number one priority, but there is still room for a little merriment through the fantasy of a child’s belief in Santa.

Baby It’s (Getting) Cold Outside
We are finally starting to get some cold”ish” weather especially in the morning.  Please send in a jacket labeled with your child’s name for times when they might be outside (ie: recess, PE).  Note that outside jackets do not have to be BCA items.  For inside the building, students can wear BCA hoodies, sweaters, jackets, etc.  White, grey or navy long sleeve shirts can be worn under short sleeve uniform shirts and girls can wear leggings underneath their skirts/skorts in navy, white or grey.  Please feel free to reach out to Melissa Hayes if you have any questions regarding uniforms.

Lower School Chapel
Our lower school students are learning about Generosity – “making someone’s day but giving something away.” Here are some great ways to encourage generosity this month:

  • Giving time to someone – listening
  • Giving away a smile
  • Giving a literal “pat on the back”
  • Giving a compliment
  • Giving someone a break
  • Giving by doing someone a favor
Middle School News
In MS chapel on Tuesday, Mrs Ridley kicked off their “Ninja” fruit of the Spirit series.  She instructed the R3 teams to build something new that has a purpose out of a few legos.  The judges deliberated on the winner for what seemed like hours but finally selected the electric blender/warmer knife.  The purpose of this activity was to demonstrate what God does for His people when they become His followers. Much like a ninja in training needs to look to their master so do we.
Mark you calendars for December 20th. Not only is it the end of the second quarter but the Jingle Jam.
